SELVA Mini Oblong
The perfect nest for founding colonies of ants! This nest is designed to cater to the needs of both smaller and larger species of ants who will appreciate the wooden environment. The compact chambers beside the entrance and the open hydration chamber provide both a dryer and a more humid option for your colony to pick and choose between which makes the nest a comfortable environment for your ants to thrive in. You will notice the ants place brood in different chambers depending on their needs and requirements. 
 
This Ant Nest comes with a red acrylic cover that sits securely on the screws to provide a low-level lighting viewing opportunity to avoid the colony freaking out as much when the top cover is removed + A leather cover to maintain the ideal dark conditions for your ant colony + A 'Nest to PVC Tube' connector that slots into the nest and allows you to connect from 12mm diameter, all the way up to 19mm diameter PVC tubing + A deep water reservoir, gone are the days of watering daily. The water reservoir will release a slow consistent flow of humidity.
 
Suitable For
This nest is suitable for founding colonies. The amount of workers it will fit comfortably depends on the species as Ant size ranges. 
 
Tips
If you're heating the nest for an exotic species, do not heat under the water reservoir as this will create excess condensation.
For exotic species, it is recommended to heat the nest before moving the ants inside so you can monitor the temperatures within the nest and adjust it to their needs. 
For exotic species, be sure to provide a heat gradient so the ants can pick and choose where to sit.
Try not to overhydrate. Do not fill up the water reservoir needlessly. Not much water is required to achieve a high humidity and it's easier to add water than remove. You can find the sweet spot for your colony over time and adjust based on their behavior.

Hydration: Water reservoir 
Destructive Species Safe: Yes. However, some species of ants may slightly chew at the nest but do not worry. This only tends to happen once they need to expand the nesting area. Nest chewing can be spotted months before they can escape.
Micro Species Safe: No. These nests haven't been thoroughly tested with enough micro species to declare it as a "Micro Species Safe" nest. We are working on making this statement certified.
