Description: Myrmecia forficata is a species from Australia, known as the 'Bull Ant'. They have very powerful eyesight and can see and track you from 6 feet away. This species is very aggressive and will require patience as they take a while to settle down and lay eggs. It is recommended to not disturb them too much during the founding stages as this may cause them to cease laying eggs or eat them. To make the queen feel more confident, do not allow her to see you from inside the nest. The queen will live off carbohydrates until larvae appear in which then she will require regular protein to feed the forever protein hungry brood. A small bit of protein here and there prior to the larvae stage will be taken nicely. These species need a substrate like clay sand for the larvae to spin cocoons. It can't be too fine or else the queen will not be able to pick it up and line the nest with it. I personally use a substrate called "Leo Life".
