Description: Messor wasmanni is known as the Harvester Ant due to the way they collect seeds and store them in the nest. They do this to chew up the seeds and make 'ant bread' which is 90% of their diet. They are really sensitive to light and vibrations but once the colony gets going, they can reach impressive numbers. A heat and moisture gradient is important for Messor wasmanni as they store their seeds in the drier parts. These queens were collected from Greece during a nuptial flight and after being hibernated, they have begun laying fresh batches of eggs and are ready to be adopted to a new home.
