Description: Iridomyrmex purpureus is a famous species throughout the ant keeping world. In the wild, they build mounds up to 22 inches! Apparently, they're known as meat ants as farmers would use them to devour dead animals. I'd only recommend them to experienced keepers due to the size they can reach. Very hungry and aggressive ants! Will collect anything they can find, from sugar sources to protein sources and even seeds!
