Diet: Water (at all times). Carbohydrates like honey water/ sugar water or other. Protein like fresh-killed insects or other.


Colony form: Polygyne (Multiple queens per colony) Average 7,000 workers per colony.


Founding Queen: Claustral (without feeding)


Nest type: Acrylic, Y tong, Natural setup.
 

Sizes: Queen- 10-13mm/ Worker- 4- 8mm


Bite/ Sting/ Formic acid: Yes, they spray formic acid which isn't harmful but may sting if it comes in contact with a cut,

 

Description: Formica fusca are found throughout Europe and build nests in the wild in large mounds. It's important not to disturb founding queens too often as they're prone to eating their eggs. Workers are fast runners and they often avoid conflict when possible. They have a shiny black colour.
