Description: Camponotus maculatus are one of the largest ants in Africa. They're known as carpenter ants due to be found nesting in wood and carving it to their liking. They show lots of activity both in the nest and out but show the most activity in the evening/ night. These ants show high aggression towards nest disturbances. The queens have a dark head/ thorax with a light beige under colour and light beige patches going down the side of their gaster. They're stunning!
