Description: Camponotus barbaricus are one of the largest species of ants in Europe. They are often found underneath decaying wood and especially enjoy nesting in soil. They are highly polymorphic and the size difference between workers is truly fascinating. They are fast moving, but slow growing but eventually begin to boom in numbers and a fully mature colony boasts up to 10,000 workers. A real treat for ant enthusiasts!
